Amazon went into a high-bidding zone and claimed the streaming rights after a tight battle. Created by Patrick McKay, John D, and Payne, the show cost Amazon about $250 million. But it is a franchise where you can expect that investment to have higher returns.
It’s going to be different than the movies
The TV series of Lord of The Rings is set during the 3441 years, known as the Age of Numenor. Also known as the Second Age, it is the period that ended with the first downfall of Sauron.
Unlike the movies, the TV series will not be a direct adaptation of the books. It will instead explore new stories, which deciphering from the timeline will be set before the first movie, The Fellowship of the Ring.
Even the promotion of the show was different from the movies. The official Twitter Handle of Lord of The Rings And Amazon Prime posted pictures of maps and writings. Amazon posted an image of the island of Númenor, home to Aragorn’s people. This revealed the setting of the show and the supposed to be the plot.
Lord of The Rings: Cast for the TV show
As to this date, a list of actors has been confirmed for the roles. It includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyrone Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman, and Maxim Baldry.
Till now, there is no fixed date for the release of the TV show. Peter Jackson directed the “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” movie trilogies. Fans expected him to be back for the TV series. But Jackson commented that he wouldn’t be leading the round. But later, rumors rolled in that he might be consulted while finalizing the scripts.
As we mentioned, there is no release date but only hopes. Amazon already commissioned the show for five seasons. This gives the writers space to try out new and diverse ideas. Later they could take the lead, which suits the show the best and is loved by the viewers.
The Tolkien estate gave Amazon the streaming rights but insisted that they didn’t alter the original story. Therefore, even though the writers have a plethora of strings to pick from, there are certain constraints.
