Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to gaming consoles later this year, but Cyberpunk fans have yet another news to cherish. An anime series based on Cyberpunk is reportedly in the world and Netflix on Thursday confirmed the show’s arrival.
The anime series takes place in the same universe as CD Projekt Red’s upcoming role-playing video game. Japanese animation company, Studio Trigger will develop the anime series exclusively for Netflix. The announcement video mentioned that the anime series will tell the story of a young kid from cyber-enhanced Night City. The kid becomes an edge runner, sometimes also called cyberpunk, to survive in the city of the future. The young boy is also a skilled mercenary outlaw in the city.
IGN reported that the new anime series titled, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be directed by popular anime director, Hiroyuki Imaishi. Imaishi has previously worked in popular anime series like Fullmetal Alchemist, Promare, and Dead Leaves. Renowned sound designer and composer, Akira Yamaoka, will provide the score for the upcoming anime.
The anime series will take place in the same city as in the game, Cyberpunk 2077. The ten-episode anime series will tell the story of a kid in the streets of Night City.
Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be the biggest video game release of 2020. The role-playing video game was previously scheduled to release on September 18, 2020. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic crisis, CD Projekt moved the release date two months away, on November 19. The video-game will debut on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. CD Projekt is planning to launch the video-game on Stadia by Google, later this year.
Sony and Microsoft have already announced the arrival of their respective next-generation gaming consoles. CD Projekt will release the video-game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next year, in 2021. Apart from anime, a card game and comic book series are set to be released following the release of the video games.
