Brightburn is an unofficial Superman re-imagination that tells the story from the point of view, the Man of Steel with a dark and violent childhood. The story begins on the same lines of the original movie, about an alien boy who grows up in Kansas and discovers that he has special powers. However, in this take, he uses these powers to kill his family and establish his superiority over humanity instead of using it for good.
While it is perfectly fine as a standalone, the director and writers are in plan for more. Apparently, the credits of the first movie hint that many DC characters could show up in the future. Here’s everything we know about the future:
The director James Gunn has been pretty with his projects like The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy and hasn’t had much time to begin filming the sequel. He will be a producer and creative consultant and will let Yarovesky take up more of the work with the story. So it is pretty clear that Brightburn 2 won’t release in 2020, now that Sony has multiple releases this year already. A 2021 or 2022 is more likely. The movie is actually not official yet.
It is pretty evident that the next movie sets up a base for an Evil Justice League, with its own version of the DC characters and superheroes. We might see Brightburn clashing with his peers and plan to dominate the whole world. Another direction where the plot might go is that Brightburn teams up with other villains when a very powerful hero enters and threatens their existence. Evil versions of Aquaman and Wonder Woman also are possible in this opposite universe.
