Did Stranger Things season 4 forget Will’s birthday?

-

It’s been a few days since the release of Stranger Things season 4 volume 1, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve already watched the new episodes more than once. After almost three years, fans could not wait to travel back to Hawkins, Indiana to see what our favorite characters have been up to. Season 4 also introduces new locations, as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) moves to California with the Byers family and Hopper (David Harbour) is stuck in Russia as a prisoner.

Minor spoilers for Stranger Things season 4 volume 1 below.

The new season has been so chaotic, it’s enough to make your head spin! The premiere episode sets the tone with a ton of action, and it doesn’t slow down from there. While most fans are super happy with the way season 4 starts off, others are concerned that maybe the Duffer Brothers bit off more than they can chew. Is there too much happening in Stranger Things season 4?

I don’t necessarily believe that, but this is definitely the most ambitious season yet. So much so, it’s possible the writers might have forgotten something very important. Did the season simply snub Will Byers (Noah Schnapp)? His storyline is a bit disappointing this season so far, and he even has a birthday that literally no one acknowledges.

When is Will’s birthday in Stranger Things?

Eagle-eyed fans on Reddit and TikTok had the realization that Will’s birthday, March 22, takes place during season 4 part 1. And no one says anything! Fans remembered a scene from Stranger Things season 2, where Joyce (Winona Ryder) tells Will his birthdate. Fast-forward to Stranger Things season 4 episode 2, and we see the date March 22, ’86 in camera footage at the skating rink.

Check out a side-by-side of the scenes in a tweet here.

The scene in season 4 happens when Eleven is being bullied by Angela (Elodie Grace Orkin) and her friends at the rink. They pull her out to the floor and prank her, all while Angela’s boyfriend Jake (Logan Allen) is filming with his camera. As we watch the camera recording, we see the March 22 mark. That day is supposed to be Will’s birthday, and fans know it. But do the writers?

It’s entirely possible that the writers did not forget and this will come up later in the season, however it’s hard to believe that Joyce and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) would forget Will’s birthday. That said, maybe Will told his family not to make a big deal about it. Jonathan does seem concerned when he and Argyle (Eduardo Franco) drop the kids off at the rink.

We still have two more episodes left of Stranger Things season 4, so let’s hope the situation is addressed. You can already bet how mad fans will be if it’s proven that the writers simply forgot about poor Will’s special day.

Catch Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 when it drops on July 1.
