Stranger Things takes over the world with stunning Global Rift Takeover

-

On May 27, Stranger Things finally returned for its highly anticipated fourth season and it’s likely of no surprise that the season quickly shot to the top spot in the Netflix Top 10 across the globe.

Upon its return, the series enjoyed the biggest premiere weekend for a Netflix Original as it amassed a whopping 286.79 Million hours viewed, surpassing Bridgerton season 2, which drew 193M. Season 4 also became the first season in the show’s history to hit No. 1 in 83(!) countries worldwide in another premiere weekend record for the series, while managing to crack the Top 10 in all 93 countries where Netflix currently tracks viewership.

Needless to say, Netflix’s biggest global hit once again has taken the world by storm, but on May 26 the series took over the world in a literal sense with a massive global takeover that saw rifts open in cities across the globe.

Stranger Things Global Rift Takeover video

To celebrate the release of Stranger Things season 4 on May 27, Netflix celebrated the launch on May 26 with a Stranger Things Global Rift Takeover, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before!

Ahead of the show’s return, Netflix took over 15 iconic monuments across 14 countries — including the Empire State Building in New York City — to bring fans a visually stunning experience inspired by the show’s fourth season.

From jaw-dropping visuals projected onto iconic monuments to massive life-like rift activations, Netflix pulled out all the stops and the world took notice.

Nearly 10,000 fans congregated in NYC alone in a moment that Netflix revealed literally brought Fifth Avenue to a standstill, and we’re not surprised. Maybe we’re biased, but the Empire State Building takeover was truly a standout from the Global Rift Takeover!

If you didn’t get the chance to see the Global Rift Takeover in a city near you or via social media, be sure to hit play on the video above for your full look at the takeover which spanned the globe with rifts located in AlUla, Saudi Arabia; Barranquilla, Colombia; Cologne, Germany; Kraków, Poland; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; London, UK; Milan, Italy; Tokyo, Japan; NYC, USA; Los Angeles, USA; Stockholm, Sweden; Madrid, Spain; Bilbao, Spain; Mumbai, India; and Bondi Beach, Australia.

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 is streaming now on Netflix. Part 2 will arrive on Friday, July 1!
