Ghostbusters animated series from Afterlife team coming to Netflix

-

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters is coming to Netflix in animated form!

According to a new exclusive from Variety, the team behind Ghostbusters: Afterlife is bringing a new incarnation of the popular franchise to Netflix in co-production with Sony Pictures Animation. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan of Ghost Corps, Inc. will serve as executive producers after they co-wrote the live-action Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which Reitman directed.

There is also a another live-action Ghostbusters movie in the works that was announced at CinemaCon earlier this year. Supposedly it will be a sequel to Afterlife and continue to follow the Spengler family.

Yesterday was June 8, also known as Ghostbusters day, to commemorate the day the original film was released in theaters, so it makes sense that we would get tons of new information about the beloved franchise on that special day!

What will the Ghostbusters animated series be about?

Per Variety, plot details are being kept under wraps and no writers has been attached yet. All we really know is that production is going to be handled by Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc. It could be that this new series is a spin-off from Afterlife or it could be something new entirely.

When it comes to animated Ghostbusters series, this would be the third iteration in the franchise’s history. Before the upcoming series, there was The Real Ghostbusters, which featured characters from the original 1984 movie, followed by Extreme Ghostbusters.

There is also an animated movie in the works from a script by Brenda Hsueh, although it doesn’t look like that movie is going to be on Netflix.

Are you looking forward to an animated Ghostbusters series at Netflix? What would you like to see happen in this new show?

Unfortunately, none of the other Ghostbusters projects are streaming on Netflix at the moment.
