Jennifer Lopez: Halftime shows us an inside look at J.Lo that we have never seen before. She’s been a larger-than-life piece of pop culture for over 20 years, and as the documentary lays out in plain view, she’s still just getting started.
The Netflix documentary follows the global superstar singer, dancer, and actress during a pivotal few months in 2019 as she turns 50, prepares to co-headline the Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira, and works the award season circuit for her hit film Hustlers.
For the first time in her film career, which began with a critically acclaimed turn in Selena, J.Lo was garnering serious (and very deserved) Oscar buzz for Hustlers. At the same exact time, Lopez prepped to take on the biggest stage in music entertainment and the world.
Jennifer Lopez: Halftime takes us behind the scenes of the passion and preparation that goes into being not only one of the most famous artists in the world but the heart and soul that goes into making it all work. Not to mention, there were some amazing J.Lo bops along the way!
J.Lo song in Jennifer Lopez: Halftime
During the end credits of the documentary, which outlines J.Lo’s Limitless Labs initiative and its efforts, Jennifer Lopez: Halftime plays the song “Same Girl” featuring French Montana. The song features as a deluxe track from Lopez’s 2014 album A.K.A.
Throughout the film, additional hits from J.Lo’s extensive and successful catalog are played, including “Waiting for Tonight,” “Let’s Get Loud,” “Medicine,” and “Get Right.” Halftime briefly touches on her beginning as a music artist, with her first single “If You Had My Love” in 1999.
Of course, Halftime also gives viewers a close look at Lopez’s Super Bowl performance from 2020. The performance included a medley of the star’s biggest songs like “On the Floor” and “Ain’t It Funny,” though she also performed a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.”
The documentary concludes with Jennifer Lopez performing “This Land Is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful” at the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021. In the final moments, we’re treated to a lesser known J.Lo hit with “Same Girl.”
