Blonde release date, cast, synopsis, teaser trailer, photos and more

-

Blonde is coming to Netflix in 2022, and we can’t wait to see this upcoming Netflix movie! We’ll share everything we know about this highly anticipated film right here.

Blonde is a biographical drama film written and directed by Andrew Dominik. It’s a film adaptation of the 2000 book titled the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. It’s a fictionalized telling of the famous actress Marilyn Monroe.

Development for the Marilyn Monroe biopic started in 2010, and production for the film began in August 2019. Now that we have a release year, it seems that principal photography for the film has ended, and it’s now in post-production.

We’re about to tell you our release date predictions, cast, synopsis and more to make sure you’re more informed on this upcoming movie.

Blonde release date

Netflix had confirmed a 2022 release year for the movie and made true on that promise. On June 16, Netflix announced Blonde would premiere on Sept. 23, 2022. That early fall release date gives the film ample time to run the award season circuit.

The film had originally began production in August 2019 and eventually finished filming in July 2021 after setbacks caused by the pandemic. By spring 2022, post-production had been completed and news of a scandalous age rating started swirling (more on that below).

Blonde cast

IMDb provided the cast of the film. Check out the actors and the characters they play down below:

  • Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe
  • Adrien Brody as The Playwright
  • Bobby Cannavale as The Ex-Athlete
  • Julianne Nicholson as Gladys
  • Caspar Phillipson as The President
  • Sara Paxton as Miss Flynn
  • Toby Huss as Whitey
  • Rebecca Wisocky as Yvet
  • Xavier Samuel as Cass
  • David Warshofsky as Mr. Z
  • Evan Williams as Eddy
  • Catherine Dent as Jean
  • Lily Fisher as Young Norma Jeane
  • Michael Masini as Tony Curtis
  • Luke Whoriskey as James Dean

There were several cast changes for the actress who plays Marilyn Monroe. Initially, Naomi Watts was cast, and then Jessica Chastain. In 2019, Ana de Armas was cast as Monroe, and her casting was final.

There are so many more talented actors a part of this drama film that we did not list. You’re going to be pleasantly surprised to see some of your favorite actors take on their roles in this upcoming film.

Blonde synopsis

Along with the release date, Netflix revealed the film’s official synopsis. Check out what to expect from the latest movie based on icon Marilyn Monroe:

Based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves. Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, the film boasts a cast led by Ana de Armas and featuring Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

Blonde age rating

In a rare turn of events, Blonde has been given an NC-17 age rating, which means that the film surpasses the typical R-rating. Dominik was surprised by the decision to give the movie this particular rating, but stands by the content of his filming, saying it’s the movie viewers want.

As for why it has been given the NC-17 rating, the teaser states “some sexual content,” though it’s obvious there’s more to it than just “some” sexual content as discussed by the director.  We’ll have to wait and see exactly why the rare rating was bestowed upon the highly anticipated film.
