What is the plot of Lum, the Invader Girl?
The story is set in Tomobiki Town, Tokyo, where Lum, the gorgeous daughter of an invading alien race of Oni Aliens, becomes smitten with high school student, Ataru Moroboshi, after he accidentally proposes to her. Ataru is a womanizer, however, and doesn’t intend to become a one-woman man despite the fact that his new fiancée has the tendency to send fierce electric shocks his way.
Participating in Ataru and Lum’s ensuing shenanigans are classmate Shinobu, elegant shrine maiden Sakura, Lum’s best friend Oyuki, Benten and Ran, Buddhist Monk Cherry, Ten, the little brat, heir to a wealthy family Shutaro Mendo and the secretly female beauty Ryunosuke. The plot develops into a classic slapstick love comedy where anything is possible! Get ready for some Japanese puns!
Who are the characters in Lum, the Invader Girl?
Ataru Moroboshi (who will be played by Hiroshi Kamiya) is a girl-crazy 17-year-old high school student that attends Tomobiki High School. After he accidentally proposes to Lum she follows him around and calls him “Darling”. Apparently, he has the vitality of a phoenix. When Lum suspects Ataru of cheating on her she punishes him with an electric shock, but Ataru remains unrepentant and continues his womanizing ways.
Ataru’s goal is to be surrounded by a beautiful harem of women, including Lum and all her oni friends. As time passes, Ataru begins to develop romantic feelings for Lum, although he stubbornly refuses to admit to these feelings to himself or to others.
Lamb/Lum (who will be played by Sumire Uesaka) is a cute, sometimes ferocious, demon girl. After she thinks Ataru proposes to her she decides to remain living on Earth. Even though she sometimes uses her electric shock attack to punish Ataru when he flirts with other women she claims it is still an expression of her affection towards him.
Shinobu Miyake (who will be played by Maaya Uchida) is Ataru’s cute childhood friend and also attends Tomobiki High School. Ever since Lum arrived she finds herself in the middle of a love triangle with her and Ataru. Even though Shinobu looks like a normal high school girl she possesses superhuman strength.
Shutaro Mendo (who will be played by Mamoru Miyano) is the is the heir to the Mendo Conglomerate, who has moved to Tomobiki High School, and has extraordinary assets such as his staggering wealth and his own private army. In the beginning, he is extremely popular with the female students because of his handsome appearance and prestigious background, but when they discover that he’s almost as lecherous as Ataru they begin to treat him normally.
Cherry/Sakuranbo (who will be played by Wataru Takagi) is a traveling monk who has the tendency to make prophecies of doom about Ataru. Because the kanji of his name in Japanese can mean “deranged monk” he prefers to be called by the English word “Cherry”. Cherry believes that the monastic life is similar to a cherry – “sweet on the outside and all hardcore on the inside”.
Sakura (who will be played by Sawashiro Miyuki) is a Shinto priestess or miko, who also makes a living as a school nurse at Ataru’s high school. In the beginning she starts out as a sickly young woman, but when she tries to exorcise Ataru of evil spirits things backfire and all the evil spirits that had inhabited her own body go into Ataru’s and she suddenly becomes healthy.
