Heading into the final batch of Stranger Things season 4 episodes, there were a lot of characters fans were worried might not make it out of the season alive. From Steve and Eddie to Eleven and Max, the weeks leading up to the release of volume 2 were filled with speculation over which characters might bite the dust in the last episodes of the season.
Among the many characters fans were extremely concerned about was Murray, who falls into a unique category on the show — one that seemed to make him a perfect candidate to be killed off in volume 2.
Murray is a character who fans love and who has been around for more than one season, which would make his death impactful to audiences. However, he’s also a character who is somewhat expendable yet whose death could create ripples among the show without sacrificing future storylines.
For these reasons and more, there was a lot of concern Murray might die in volume 2 which has left many asking about his fate now that the episodes have arrived. So did Murray perish before the end of the season or did he live to fight another day?
Warning: Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 spoilers ahead.
Die Murray die in Stranger Things season 4 volume 2?
While the internet seemed to think Murray would be a goner, we can confirm Murray does not die in Stranger Things season 4! That’s right, Murray is not killed off during the second part of season 4 and is very much alive as the season comes to a close — leaving the door open for his return in season 5.
Unlike many characters who faced near-death experiences in volume 2, Murray actually managed to navigate the events of the episodes without being put in direct danger. In fact, he’s the one who saves the day and comes to the rescue of Joyce and Hopper when they find themselves in a precarious situation in the season 4 finale.
With Murray alive still by the end of the season, we’re expecting he’ll once again return in season 5 to help Eleven and company face what will be their biggest fight yet.
