While we’re still scratching our heads trying to figure out exactly what the Duffer Brothers have planned for their mysterious spinoff, Stranger Things star David Harbour—who plays the beloved Jim Hopper—is already thinking miles ahead. Harbour wants a Stranger Things prequel series and he has a certain Euphoria star in mind to play young Hopper!
Before you get too excited, there is no prequel series in the works right now (as far as we know). Even if the spinoff ends up being a prequel of some sort, it seems unlikely that Hopper would be featured in it, as the Duffers have said they don’t really want to revisit characters they’ve already explored in the main show.
That said, there is precedent for a prequel story involving Hopper and it already exists, in book form. The novel Darkness on the Edge of Town by Adam Christopher is about Hopper’s life as a NYPD detective in the summer of 1977. That’s not really far enough in the past for another actor to take over the role, but it’s a great book for those who want to learn more about Hopper’s origins.
David Harbour wants Euphoria star Jacob Elordi to play young Jim Hopper in a Stranger Things prequel
While chatting with GQ Magazine, Harbour referred to the show’s final season and how things might end for Hopper. He thinks Hopper is a character that could exist without him, either in the distant past or future.
Then he followed up on that statement by saying that Jacob Elordi, who plays Nate Jacbos on Euphoria, could fill in for him.
“He could pull off being as handsome as I was at 20,” says Harbour.
Funnily enough, it wouldn’t be the first time a Euphoria star made their way to a popular Netflix series. Javon “Wanna” Walton, who plays Ashtry on the HBO drama, recently appeared in The Umbrella Academy season 3.
Additionally, Elordi has worked with Netflix before on all three The Kissing Booth movies alongside Joey King, so hey, who knows?
