Heartstopper season 2 is not coming to Netflix in July 2022 (latest updates)

-

We’re quickly making our way through the month of July and we’ve already seen the release of  Netflix’s top original series Stranger Things season 4 volume 2. We hoped to see the release of Heartstopper season 2, but the teen series didn’t make the July Netflix new releases list. So, sadly, we’ll be going through another month without new episodes of Heartstopper. But don’t worry. We have some good news to share regarding the upcoming second installment!

Heartstopper landed on Netflix in April and became an instant hit. It received critical acclaim and secured a spot on the top 10 list on Netflix for a period of time. The show was praised for its positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community and its tone and pacing.

Fans loved watching Charlie and Nick’s (Joe Locke and Kit Connor) love story unfold across the eight-episode first season and were hoping that Netflix would renew the show for an additional installment. Luckily, Netflix granted the fans’ wishes and handed out a two-season renewal only a month after its release.

However, things had been quiet on the Heartstopper front since the renewal announcement until recently. A casting call for a new character in season 2 has gone out, and a potential filming start date was revealed within the casting call.

Heartstopper season 2 is casting for the role of Sahar Zahid

On July 8, a casting director for Heartstopper tweeted a casting call looking for an actor to portray the role of Sahar Zahid in Heartstopper season 2. Sahar Zahid is described as a 16-year-old of British South Asian heritage. They are straightforward, independent, and a “little cynical at times.” They are also in year 11 at Higgs secondary school. It’s unknown how they’ll be introduced, but we’re excited to see what they’ll bring to the teen series.

When is Heartstopper season 2 filming?

In the casting call, one of the requirements is that the actor must be available from autumn 2022. This can only mean one thing, right? Production on the second season will likely start sometime this fall. Fall starts on Sept. 23 and ends on Dec. 21. So principal photography will begin somewhere between those dates. Hopefully, production will start in September because the sooner the better.

Heartstopper season 2 release updates

We think production will last for two months, and then the show will immediately post-production. We’re basing the second season’s production schedule on the first season. The first season began filming in April 2021, and then two months later wrapped. However, post-production lasted 10 months for the first season. We’re hoping post-production can be shortened for Heartstopper season 2, but if not, we’ll likely be looking at a fall 2023 release.

Once the cameras start rolling on the second season, we should have a better idea of when Heartstopper season 2 could come to Netflix. But, for now, expect the second season to land on Netflix in fall 2023.

Stay tuned to Gizmo Blaze for any new updates on Heartstopper season 2!
