Bridgerton fans, we’ve just received word that the swoon-worthy period drama star Jonathan Bailey has been cast in the upcoming Showtime limited series Fellow Travelers alongside Matt Bomer. We’ve shared all the juicy deets about his casting below!
Everyone absolutely fell in love with Jonathan Bailey as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix’s Bridgerton. When season 2 came out, fans couldn’t wait to see Anthony’s love story play out with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), and they definitely weren’t disappointed.
But after watching the second season, people began to worry that Jonathan and Simone’s characters wouldn’t be returning for the third season. Fortunately, things were cleared up and both actors will be reprising their roles in Bridgerton season 3. They just won’t be the main leads with the story now focusing on Colin and Penelope.
But don’t you worry! We’ll be seeing Jonathan Bailey in several other projects soon, like Fellow Travelers. Here’s everything we know so far about the show and Jonathan’s involvement.
What is Fellow Travelers about?
Fellow Travelers is an upcoming period drama series that will air on Showtime. It is a limited series based on Thomas Mallon’s 2007 book titled the same name. According to Showtime, the show is described as “an epic love story and political thriller, chronicling the volatile romance of two very different men who meet in the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington.”
It was given an eight-episode order with Ron Nyswaner signed on as the creator and executive producer, and Daniel Minahan directing the first two episodes and executive producing as well. Robbie Rogers is also an executive producer, and Fremantle and Showtime are co-producing.
Matt Bomer was the first actor to join the series. He will be playing the role of Hawkins Fuller, an attractive and charming man who is financially stable because of his behind-the-scenes job in politics. However, Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements until he meets Tim Laughlin. Not only does Bomer star in the series, but he’s also an executive producer.
Get Out star Allison Williams joined the cast in June, and she will be playing Lucy Smith, the daughter of a U.S. senator and childhood friend of Hawkins.
Production is slated to start in late July in Toronto.
Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey cast in Fellow Travelers
On July 11, TV Line reported that Jonathan Bailey had joined the cast of Fellow Travelers. He will portray the role of Tim Laughlin. He’s been described as “a young Fordham University graduate, earnest about his political and religious convictions and filled with optimism about the post-WWII future.” Tim will be Hawkins’s love interest.
Since Hawkins is intimacy-avoidant and the story takes place during one of the darkest times in American history, we know their love story won’t be all sunshine and rainbows. There will be many obstacles they will face personally and within their relationship.
Will Jonathan Bailey’s Fellow Travelers role impact his Bridgerton season 3 role?
It’s unclear, but we don’t think so. Principal photography for Bridgerton season 3 is reportedly underway, but a wrap date is unknown. It’s already known that Jonathan isn’t the main star in Bridgerton season 3, so he probably won’t be needed much on set. We don’t think he’ll have any scheduling conflicts. Hopefully, we’re right because we can’t wait to see Jonathan Bailey return as Anthony Bridgerton in Bridgerton and see him take on his new role as Tim Laughlin in Fellow Travelers.
