Crunchyroll Expo 2022 music festival features SiM, metal band artists for Attack on Titan OP theme songs

On July 12, 2022, Crunchyroll announced that the popular Japanese metal band SiM will be a headlining act for the New Crunchy City Music Fest at this year’s Crunchyroll Expo 2022 event, which is taking place at the San Jose McEnergy Convention Center from August 5 to August 7, 2022. If you can’t make it out to California the Expo will also be held online. Tickets are now on sale.

SiM (Silence iz Mine) is a Japanese alternative metal band from the Kanagawa Prefecture that was formed in 2004. The bands members are MAH (vocals), SHOW-HATE (guitar), SiN (bass), and GODRi (drums). Their musical style is a fusion of heavy metal, alternative, hip-hop, ska, reggae, and “dub and punk”. Their songs are known for having rebellious lyrics.

In 2022, the band signed with Pony Canyon and released their hit single “The Rumbling” which was used as the opening theme song for the anime Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2. The single managed to enter US Billboard charts – ranking #1 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs, #5 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, #2 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, and #13 on the Hot and Rock and Alternative Songs.

SiM is also known for having performed the theme song for the animes Rage of Bahamut Genesis and Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, SiM will perform a full headline set, including the first-ever live performance of “The Rumbling” outside of Japan! You can watch SiM’s official music video featuring the song “The Rumbling” on their YouTube channel here:

Crunchyroll also announced other performers for the New Crunchy City Music Fest including electronic music producer SEVENN, composer and DJ James Landino, pop singer-songwriter Shihori, and electronic music producer duo Young Bombs.

SiM is joining previously announced headliners J-pop group ATARASHII GAKKO! and the band Burnout Syndromes for the event. Virtual talent management agency, PRISM Project, alongside Crunchyroll’s Vtuber princess, Hime, will be hosting the event. 

August 5 SEVENN, James Ladino, Shihori and ATARSHII GAKKO! perform

SEVENN is a project of American DJ and producer Kevin Brauer. His brother, Sean Brauer, was part of the group until February 2019, when he had to leave SEVENN for his health. SEVENN exploded on the international electronic music scene and produced hit tracks collaborating with DJ Alok, Tiesto, and Gucci Mane. SEVENN is currently represented by WME internationally and Plus Talent in Brazil.

James Landino is a music composer and DJ who has worked on various anime and video game soundtracks. He is most known for recomposing the song “Lotus” from the anime Tower of God in collaboration with Kevin Penkin. You can listen to the song here:

Shihori is a Japanese pop singer/songwriter and is best known for her collaborations with Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Kohei Tanaka (One Piece). She has written and composed songs for the following anime series: Fairy Tale, Macross Frontier, and The Irregular at Magic High School.

ATARASHII GAKKO! known in Japan as Atarshii Gakkou no Leaders (New School Leaders) is a Japanese girl group that was formed in 2015. Their songs are a fusion of modern J-pop, Showa-era kayokyoku, rap, punk, and dance. In June 2017, they made their Japanese debut under Victor Entertainment with the single “Dokubana”. August 6 Young bombs and SiM will perform

Young Bombs is a Canadian electronic duo (DJ/Producers Tristan Norton and Martin Kottmeier) that has performed during festivals such as Lollapalooza and the Firefly Music Festival. They’ve supported The Chainsmokers, Galantis, R3hab, and Adventure Club on tour.

August 7 Burnout Syndromes will perform

Burnout Syndromes is a Japanese rock band formed on May 4, 2005, in Osaka. The band consists of Kazuumi Kumagai (guitarist and vocalist), Taiyu Ishikawa (bass), and Takuya Hirose (drums). Epic Records Japan has released two of their albums. Burnout Syndromes is most known for being a part of the original soundtrack of the anime Haikyu!! in its second season. They also performed the opening theme for the anime Dr. STONE and the ending theme for the anime Gintama.

On January 31, 2020, the band premiered its single “Phoenix” (which was used as the opening for Haikyu!!) on YouTube and you can watch the video on their official YouTube channel here:
