Millie Bobby Brown and 5 Netflix stars snubbed

-

It’s that time of the year, and the Emmy nominations 2022 have arrived. All of television’s biggest and buzziest shows have landed coveted nominations, including the likes of Succession, Ted Lasso, The White Lotus, Ozark, and so many more.

Thankfully, Stranger Things season 4 vol. 1 managed to squeak in at the last minute with 13 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, but the long-running Netflix original series failed to send any of its incredible cast members to the competitive acting categories this time around.

While so many Netflix series and specials were nominated, such as Julia Garner nabbing a double-nomination for Ozark and Inventing Anna, the omissions of some of the streamer’s top talent was eye-opening.

Emmy nominations 2022 Netflix snubs

We’re diving into the five biggest Netflix star snubs from the Emmy nominations 2022 list, which includes talent from Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Russian Doll, and The Woman in the House.

Millie Bobby Brown

In the fourth season of Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown delivered one of her series-best performances as Eleven. It’s a demanding role that arguably holds the entire series together. Brown puts in so much work as Eleven, whether it’s screaming, blowing things up, floating in water, or navigating the emotional turmoil of loss and bullying. We’re disappointed to see the young star, who’s been nominated twice before for the role, omitted this year.

Simone Ashley

As the new romantic female lead of Bridgerton’s second season, Simone Ashley absolutely stole the show as Kate Sharma. The series newcomer held her own against Jonathan Bailey, who plays the Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and is also included on this list. Ashley tackled a complex role, and we would have loved to see her amazing work recognized by the Emmys.

Kristen Bell

Even though it was a long shot nomination, we were hoping to see Kristen Bell pop up in the limited series acting category for The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. We’ve been clamoring for Bell to land an Emmy nod since Veronica Mars and again with The Good Place. She’s the only reason the broadly satiric Netflix original comedy series worked and she would have been recognized had The White Lotus not been so formidable.

Max - Stranger Things

Sadie Sink

Perhaps the most obvious and talked about snub of all Netflix shows… Sadie Sink! As Max Mayfield in Stranger Things season 4, Sink delivered probably the strongest performance of the entire series in the episode “Dear Billy.” (And also the rest of the season, to be honest.) Sadie Sink acted her you-know-what off in what’s now a pop culture moment. There’s no doubt she will get her due for vol. 2, season 5, and the long, long career she’s bound to have post-Stranger Things.

Natasha Lyonne

Somehow, Russian Doll season 2 made little noise when released this spring on Netflix. It’s odd considering how much love the first season received when it premiered in 2019. But the critical acclaim was still there, even if it wasn’t enough to garner a nomination for its fearless leading star, co-creator, writer, and executive producer Natasha Lyonne. No one else could tell this story, and it’s a shame Lyonne’s work was shut out this year.

Bridgerton season 2

Jonathan Bailey

Bridgerton season 2 rested on the shoulders of Jonathan Bailey’s charisma, and it’s about time it was said! Bailey took over the leading man mantle from Regé-Jean Page (who landed a nomination for the show’s first season), and while we missed the charming and talented Duke, we were never lacking in on-screen talent. In delving into Anthony’s past and future, Bailey put in so much stunning and layered work that deserved a nomination.
