There’s no doubt that Netflix’s new action thriller The Gray Man is one of the biggest movie releases of the summer. The film comes from Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors behind Avengers: Endgame (among others), and stars a trio of the biggest movie stars in the world.
Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas headline The Gray Man, which also stars Bridgerton breakout Regé-Jean Page and Game of Thrones stars Jessica Henwick. In the action movie, a CIA mercenary learns dark secrets and becomes a target of international assassins and a former colleague.
The Gray Man received a limited theatrical release on July 15 ahead of its worldwide streaming release on Netflix on July 22. Although the movie has garnered middling reception from critics, fans will definitely be tuning in around the world for the film’s stars.
But will they return for a sequel to the surefire hit? Here’s what we know so far about the future of The Gray Man and a possibility of a sequel of franchise expansion.
Will there be a sequel to The Gray Man on Netflix?
As of the film’s release in July 2022, Netflix hasn’t announced any concrete plans for a The Gray Man sequel or franchise. Even though there aren’t any additional titles in the works, there’s plenty of source material to pull from in Mark Greaney’s book series.
According to Variety, the Russo Brothers were asked about the potential of more movies at a press event for the film in Mumbai, and they hinted at the future:
“It’s based on a book series, so there is the opportunity to expand this into future movies. We love to keep going with the world because we love all the characters. But we need the audience to tell us whether they want to see more of the story or not. If we do continue forward with the story, I can guarantee you that Dhanush’s character will be part of that world moving forward.”
Like with most Netflix titles, the possibility of either getting a sequel in development or expanding the universe depends on its performance. Considering some of the most popular names in film star in The Gray Man, we can assume it’ll be a huge blockbuster, much like last fall’s Red Notice, which earned the greenlight for two sequels.
If Netflix announces a sequel or spin-off movie based on The Gray Man, we’ll be sure to keep fans updated on all the latest developments. Stay tune for more movie news and updates from Gizmo Blaze, and watch the movie now on Netflix!
