Melissa Barrera is undoubtedly the main attraction to Netflix’s upcoming survival drama Keep Breathing. Coming off a hot streak with films like In the Heights and Scream, Barrera’s fans are eager to see what she does next and this limited series is a great showcase of her talents.
But she’s also surrounded by a talented group of actors who flesh out the world, despite the fact her character, Liv, spends the bulk of the series as a lone survivor in the Canadian wilderness. Melissa Barrera as Liv
The 32-year-old Mexican actress plays Liv, a tough attorney who ends up stranded in the Canadian wilderness on her own after a plane crash.
You might recognize Barrera as Veronica in In the Heights or as Sam Carpenter in Scream. Barrera will return to reprise her role as Sam in the sixth Scream film. She has also been cast in the title role of Carmen in the musical drama based on the musical and novella of the same name.
Jeff Wilbusch as Danny
Israeli-German actor Jeff Wilbusch, 34, plays Liv’s on-again, off-again love interest who appears frequently via flashbacks as Liv tries to survive in the wilderness.
He is probably best-known for playing Anton Mesterbein in the miniseries The Little Drummer Girl, which also starred Michael Shannon, Alexander Skarsgård and Florence Pugh. He also starred in the acclaimed Netflix miniseries Unorthodox. Next, Wilbusch will lead the Peacock drama The Missing from David E. Kelley.
Florencia Lozano as Liv’s mom
Florencia Lozano is a talented 52-year-old Argentinian actress who plays Liv’s mother in Keep Breathing. She played Téa Delgado on the daytime soap opera One Life to Live. She also appeared in Veronika Decides to Die alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Perfect Stranger, which featured Halle Berry and Bruce Willis. Lozano will next star in the thriller Amy Makes Three, also starring Torrey DeVitto and Mike Doyle.
Juan Pablo Espinosa as Liv’s father
Colombian actor Juan Pablo Espinosa, 41, plays Liv’s father in the series. Like Liv’s mother, his scenes are predominantly via flashback as Liv reckons with her childhood and personal demons while lost in the woods.
Espinosa has starred in several Spanish series and appeared in a few episodes of Netflix’s Narcos. He also guest-starred in the Apple TV+ show Acapulco and the Lifetime movie Cocaine Godmother starring Catherine Zeta-Jones as Griselda Blanco.
Austin Stowell as Sam
Austin Stowell is a 37-year-old American actor who plays one of the passengers on the plane Liv is on when it crashes. He claims to be a National Geographic photographer.
Stowell has appeared in many commercial films like Fantasy Island, The Hating Game, Whiplash, Bridge of Spies and Battle of the Sexes. He also starred in the Hulu miniseries Catch-22. The actor has several projects in the works, including Netflix’s upcoming horror film The Inheritance, Showtime drama Three Women and the Peacock limited series A Friend of the Family.
Keep Breathing premieres this Thursday, July 28, on Netflix.
