Alice in Borderland season 2 and 5 best international shows coming in 2022

Although we’re inching towards the end of summer and we’re already somehow past the halfway mark of the year, there are still so many awesome shows coming to Netflix in 2022. Viewers can expect exciting releases like Manifest season 4, Cobra Kai season 5, and Locke and Key season 3. But beyond the mainstream, there are also a handful of international shows coming this year that you shouldn’t miss, including Alice in Borderland season 2.

Don’t be intimidated by subtitles and be sure to check out these six non-English-language shows releasing on Netflix in 2022!

Fans of Alice in Borderland have been waiting for the second season for what feels like forever. The Japanese thriller hit Netflix in 2020 and captivated audiences with its gripping story of a dangerous game. The show has been compared to the famous 2000 Japanese movie Battle Royale. It’s a wild ride from start to finish and has really awesome visuals. If you’re into action and don’t mind a lot of violence, be sure to watch Alice in Borderland right now before the new season comes out.

Alice in Borderland season 2 is confirmed to premiere on Netflix this December! An exact release date has not been announced, but we’ll let you know when it is.

Calling all anime fans! Bastard!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy is a new Netflix Original based on a Japanese manga of the same name by Kazushi Hagiwara. He is said to have taken inspiration from the game Dungeons & Dragons for the series.

The show debuted in June 2022, and the next season is already on the horizon! You can expect the next installment to hit Netflix on September 15, 2022.

In the mood for a teen drama you haven’t seen multiple times? You should definitely check out Young Royals on Netflix! The Swedish series follows students at an elite private school called Hillerska, following protagonist Wille who happens to be a Prince. Willie strikes a romance with one of his classmates, Simon, and season 1 follows their relationship, along with others.

Young Royals is definitely a hit for Netflix, and fans will be happy to know that a second installment is coming to the streamer very soon! Be sure to watch Young Royals season 2 when it comes out in November 2022. At this time, we don’t have an exact release date, but we’re sure it will be announced soon.

From the creators of Dark on Netflix comes a new twisted tale that viewers are bound to become obsessed with. 1899 is a brand-new horror-mystery series that’s actually multilingual. It’s a German production but will include dialogue in English, German, Spanish, French, and more. This is probably my most highly-anticipated new Netflix show of 2022.

1899 will follow a group of people migrating from London to New York City by boat, and the majority of the series — if not all — takes place out at sea. Netflix is venturing into using technology called “the volume” with this show, which is something Disney has been using with shows like The Mandalorian. This technology consists of tall LED panels, meant to replace a green screen.

So far there is a teaser trailer for 1899, and this behind-the-scenes video is just awesome.

1899 will be released on Netflix in 2022, but we don’t have the release date yet. Check back with us for more updates on what’s bound to be a game-changing show!

Ahead of the spooky season, we have a new horror show to look out for that’s coming to Netflix in August! School Tales: The Series is a Thai anthology show inspired by comic books. Each episode will take place in a school that’s seemingly haunted, complete with ghosts, monsters, curses, and a lot of blood.

If you’re a horror fan, we’d definitely recommend checking out School Tales: The Series. It looks unique and will surely get you into the Halloween spirit as summer winds down. You can stream all eight episodes on August 10, 2022.

The Empress release date

The Empress

The last one on our list is dedicated to all you period drama lovers out there. The Empress is a German series based on the true story of Duchess Elisabeth of Bavaria, Austrian royalty. Everything changes for Elisabeth when she meets and falls in love with Franz Joseph, the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, who is also the man set to marry her sister. Think The Crown meets Bridgerton.

There is only a short teaser for The Empress out right now, but it teases romance and drama. Sometimes, that’s all you need in a show!

The Empress will be released on Netflix on September 29, 2022.

Which international show are you most excited to check out in 2022?
