Squid Game season 2 is on its way, but just not ready to release yet.
It won’t come as a shock that Squid Game has been renewed for a second season. Netflix made the official announcement that its hit series — which topped the streaming service’s charts in more than 80 countries — will be returning on June 12 via Twitter. However, if you were hoping to catch the second installment of the thrilling Korean show this month, you’ll be sorely mistaken.
As Squid Game season 2 is not coming to Netflix in August 2022. The wait for the return of the dystopian global phenomena continues. So when could we possibly see the second season on Netflix? Find out the latest updates below.
Is there a Squid Game season 2 release date?
As mentioned, on June 12, Netflix made the announcement that it has officially greenlit the second season of Squid Game. Director, Writer, and Executive Producer of the series, Hwang Dong-Hyuk, also took to social media at the time to tease what’s to come, remarking that it took “12 years to bring Squid Game to life,” but it only took “12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.”
However, an official release date for the second season has yet to be revealed by Netflix. But don’t worry about that! It’s still early days. Of course, we doubt that we’ll be forced to wait another 12 years before we get Squid Game season 2, but there still will be a significant amount of time to wait before the net chapter in Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) and the Front Man’s (Lee Byung-hun) escapades.
That being said, in an interview with Vanity Fair back in May, Hwang predicted the new series could be out by the end of 2023 or 2024. Which would make sense, considering it took two years to complete filming and post-production on the first season.
We’re sure that once production begins on season 2, we’ll have more details to share, so make sure to stay tuned for more Squid Game season 2 updates.
